Orson's blog

I'm a big Orson Scott Card fan and love it when he comes out with a new book. One day, while skimming through his website www.hatrack.com I noticed that he had a blog link on the left-hand side of the page. He writes about books, movies, t.v., food, schools, the economy, whatever strikes his fancy. I've found several book gems by reading his blog. This week he talks about the book choices he made for teaching a class on the Contemporary American Novel at Southern Virginia University. It's too long to include here, but I printed it up and put it in my stack of books to be read, so I can find some of them at the library. He has strong feelings on the merit of books that are understandable by most people, and little patience for the intellectual superiority complex of English professors en masse. I'm excited to try out some of these books. How fun would it be to take a class from Mr. Card?

  1. Hi Jenny,
What a fun blog! I am glad you jumped on the band wagon too. I just wrote a short post on ZW that is about a trilogy by Mel Odom. If you like elves, dwarves, magic, and wizards, you will like these three, although they will be way too scary for Madelyn.

  2. Jenny, I like it. I'm not much of a blog person, but you know how I love to read! I just read some great books by Brandon Mull. He is writing a series called Fablehaven. He already has books 1 & 2 out, and there will be 3 more coming. It's sort of Harry Potter-esque & I really liked 'em. I think they were made for like school reading because in the back of each book it has chapter summeries. But it's another children's fiction that I fell in love with.

  4. Orson is the coolest! I check his site every day to see if he has something new on his Ornery American blog. I can't say I agree with averything he says, but he sure does get the mind thinking and keeping you from blindly following the masses. I think I will go read Ender's Game again for the 23rd time...
